Heavily focused on Castle since late November 2011.

So when I first posted my reaction to the episode, I noted that I hadn’t liked it all that much. A second watch has just firmed up my opinion, but I can see from the reaction on tumblr and elsewhere that on this one I’m out of step with the majority of the fandom. That’s fine, been there before (‘The Lives of Others’, ‘The Blue Butterfly’) and I’ll be there again no doubt. Just a head’s up that this isn’t going to have so much gushing and quite a bit of criticism.
I’m definitely one of those in the majority who loved and was blown away by this episode. I won’t nit-pic you in any way, but I was with and connected to Beckett through every step of her ordeal. I don’t know how I can ever watch the torture scene again.
Regarding the wedding… I know it’s unrealistic to believe we’ll get a beautiful, happy wedding and see the ceremony and pieces of the reception. My biggest fear is that Braken or Jerry Tyson will crash it, so to speak. I don’t know how this wedding will be ruined, but something big and dramatic HAS to happen to make us wait in agony over the summer. What YOU made me realize is that we are not only getting pieces of their perfect wedding and what they want for their perfect wedding but also…that these pieces are so we can imagine their perfect wedding once we’ve seen how it’s going to go wrong. Castle & Beckett do things unconventionally. Their wedding should be no different. All of this wedding planning is to please the fans, I believe, because we won’t get the happy wedding and reception that we want for our favorite couple.
Now on for the real reason I was prompted to respond…
Personally this whole need to re-mythologize Bracken so Beckett needs to go after him not just for justice for her mom but to save the country from this Big Bad is just a tremendously unnecessary direction for the show to take. The show functions best when it is small in scale (focusing on murderers and serial killers), and every time Marlowe has given in to his inner feature-writer and gone for a “grander” story (most of the two-parters, ‘Need To Know’ etc) IMO it has just not functioned very well in meshing with the tone of the show and the characters in it. The switch from light character-focused romantic dramedy to big, intense, world-saving action-adventure and back again is just too jarring for it to feel realistic and sucker me along for the ride.
I completely agree with you. Castle is not an action-adventure movie. I usually lose complete track of the case when it goes grander/national/global, and I hate that so much. I like to understand the case (to an extent because beautiful Kate Beckett and comedic/sweet moments usually distract me) and enjoy the character-driven stories happening as the case unfolds. Having said that, I thought “Target” and “Hunt” make a great two-parter. “Tick Tick Tick” and “Boom” are excellent episodes, though they don’t go as grand as the other two-parters. But…”Pandora” and Linchpin”… While there were some great moments in them, those episodes took everything too far. It was neat to finally see the C.I.A. since it’s a common Castle theory, but World War III? Too much. I got lost. I’ve enjoyed the ongoing Beckett’s mother’s murder saga, and of course there eventually has to be a Beckett/Bracken showdown. I dreaded him ultimately running for president. Doesn’t surprise me that he’d run, but in terms of the story…it doesn’t interest me. Because like you pointed out…now Beckett has to save the country/world from him? Does that really have to be the new center of her bringing him down? *shrugs* I have no clue how it’s all going to play out, but hopefully Beckett’s going to finally get justice for her mom…and that will be what really matters. Not the country/world being saved.
What a gripping episode!
Agree on the general tone, etc. don’t think Elana went to the cops, they picked her up, and she downplayed her role.
Reserving wedding judgment. Because somewhere between what the characters think is gonna happen and what the audience thinks is gonna happen is the truth. But I’m not sure how far in either direction to fall.
Happy 5th Anniversary, Castle!
It really has changed certain phrases for ever.
I love these.
uhm. whyyyy do they have a creepy brunette doll sitting on their armchair?

One of my favorite encounters with a celebrity was with Stana Katic (Kate Beckett on ABC’s “Castle”). Her mom took this photo for us. She is so nice! Look at how wide my eyes are—I am so star struck I can’t even believe it! (x)
Stana’s so beautiful.
I swear that’s a Disney Vinylmation tee that she’s wearing. It looks familiar. (But I could totally be wrong.)
This is the best. But seriously, how could I not? I just had to!
Please pass along that they’re invited here anytime. I have about 40 bottles of Diet Coke w Lime in my fridge, a few cases in inventory and picked up 17 bottles a half hour ago. And they’re right- coffee might be coffee, but only as ice cream. The drink of choice is Diet Coke w Lime!Hehe…CHERRY! (But Lime takes a close sliver medal!)mousemealsdeveloperdoes have a weakness for coffee ice cream…
